Keep a useful ownership record
A classic camera deserves a practical record as well as a place on the shelf.
Keep the evidence together
Save your purchase invoice, the original listing, serial photographs, accessories list and any service paperwork. Record what was known at purchase and what was not verified. If a repair is performed, add the date and the work described by the repairer.
Plan storage around the equipment
Follow the model’s manufacturer instructions and the guidance of a qualified repairer. Keep equipment protected from dust, damp conditions and direct heat. Avoid treating a case or a generic storage rule as proof that an item will remain in good condition. Check stored equipment periodically and ask a specialist before forcing a stiff control or attempting a repair.
Make insurance enquiries concrete
If you want insurance, ask the insurer what evidence and coverage it requires for used photographic equipment, including use, storage and transit. A store listing price is not an insurance valuation or a prediction of future resale value.
Our dossiers record available item information; they do not promise investment returns. Ask about an individual item.
